Born in Angola during the upheavals of a country in throes of independence, Tiago Borges grew up with war, kidnap, dystopia and misadventure. In his work he often incorporates a number of materials to give body to metaphoric and artistic possibilities using his characteristic form of irony. Objects and images are often subtracted from their original contexts and grouped in determined ways which provoke an effect of \u2018estranging\u2019 evoking esoteric-cumprovocative imaginaries. His outputs include web pages, diagrams, schemes, installations, machines that produce sound effects, apparent random stacking of symbols\/objects, amputated neon\/toys, low-fi systems, broken grammatics and formulae, stencil and graffiti, editorial\/cinematographic projects and an endless array of drawings and sketches expressing psychogeographies\/philosophies of\u00a0contemporary perceptions and dyslexia. Using excess as breath, the anarchic\u00a0ghosts in his works escape territorialization. He has participated in international group exhibitions, among others Lisboa Luanda Maputo (Plataforma Rev\u00f3lver, Lisbon), Tentativa d\u2019Agotar un Lloc Afric\u00e0 (Centro Cultural Santa Monica, Barcelona), the V\u00aa Bienal de S\u00e3o Tom\u00e9 e Pr\u00edncipe or Futurism vs We Are The World (Rock Gallery, Lisbon). His most recent work was displayed in at ARCO Madrid Art Fair 2010.<\/span><\/div>\n
Tiago is also currently teaching at Escola Superior de Artes e Design das Caldas da Rainha.<\/span><\/div>\n
